Florida State University

Dear Florida State University,
Your school has been enticing me for about a decade. I love the way the campus is laid out, the school spirit, and all of the tradition that comes along with being a student. If I am not granted a football scholarship to this university, I plan to walk on to the football team if I am accepted into this magnificent university. This beloved school is about six hours away from my home in Seminole County. This would allow me to stay in contact with my family and friends.I was inspired by this university because of one person. I have never had a father in my life, however I always had a father figure who happened to be living next door. He graduated from the university and is a total fanatic, he is the only person who is a bigger fan of Florida State than myself. Anytime I was having troubles he would cheer me up by taking me to a game, or just take me to a sports bar to watch a game just take a load off of my shoulders. Then I laid my eyes on the Seminoles, the rest was history.
When I first laid eyes on the campus it was extravagant. All of the students were welcoming, everything is easy to get to, and every student eats, sleeps, and breaths Florida State University. When you enter the stadium there is a huge statue of the greatest coach of all time, Bobby Bowden. As soon as you see his statue before entering his stadium, you are automatically taken back by its gravitas. Then you feel welcomed to enter the one and only Doak Cambell Stadium.
The university would benefit by me attending the school by many things. I was always active with football, basketball, student government, and weightlifting. I can join the football team. I have started three years at my high school. As a sophomore, I shattered many records. I can also bring my leadership skills to Florida State. I was captain of the football team. I was also in Student Government since my seventh grade year. Being in student government gives you many qualities that other things cannot give you. I learned how to advertise and sell things, also I learned how to get along with many people that I would not normally get along with. I also maintained a 3.65 GPA while participating in all of these activities.
By accepting me into my dream school, you will get many things. An athlete, a committed student, a student that could better the school, and most of all, receiving a student who will be the most school spirited student at Florida State University.

Sincerely,
Michael McCoy

Ban the Death Penalty, I Think Not

The death penalty is a prime example of karma such as what goes around comes around, and I'm a believer of karma. I believe that we need to keep the death penalty because people need to pay for the severe crimes that that they have committed. My opinions are that the overpopulation in prisons are terrible, the death penalty will prevent excessive crimes, and it will give the victim's family a sense of closure.
To start off, the death penalty will reduce the amount of inmates in prison. There is already overpopulation in prisons, so if the death penalty is banned it will continue to overpopulate. The article says, "Each additional prisoner requires a portion of a cell, food, clothing, extra guard time" and also stating, "When you eliminate the death penalty as an option, it means that prisoner must be housed for life". According to the author, we will be spending to much money on these inmates. In Ms. Mattingly's video, she stated that our government pays around double for an inmate to stay in prison, than to school a child, that's horrendous. For example, if the death penalty is eliminated, how many more prisons are we going to have to build, and where will the money come from?
Furthermore, the death penalty would prevent excessive crimes throughout our country. The author stated that, "Keep the death penalty because it prevents crimes from happening again". For example, if a killer stays in prison and is not executed then he could go on a killing spree in prison, maybe even kill a guard. Like Ms. Mattingly states in her video, "The death penalty is a warning", "Jail doesn't scare people enough", and "The death penalty will control crimes". For instance, if you are pondering committing a terrible crime, but you hear about a guy being executed for the same thing you are thinking about doing, you will think twice before committing the crime. If you execute criminals, you prevent other people from getting severely hurt, maybe even perishing.
Lastly, execution of a person that has caused a person and their family pain and anguish, will give them a sense of closure. Many families and victims are afraid that their predator will escape from prison and hurt them. For instance, until the predator is killed, the family will always be haunted so personally I think that is enough. The author says that, "Some will never recover" which is extravagantly true. The video about execution spoke about a family that wanted to see the guy who murdered their son hurt, they wanted to see him have a painful death. That shows exactly why the death penalty can provide closure for families because they just want justice to be served, and like on that video, sometimes more.
Others might say that the death penalty needs to be banned from the U.S. People that believe that banning the death penalty is good may think that some people that are executed are innocent and that crimes can't always be proved. However, with the near 100% DNA tests, lie detectors, and the average of twenty years on death row, if there is a flaw in proving someone guilty, we will find it. Others also might say that the effects that it has on the person getting executed's family is to immense. They'll say things such as, "They don't deserve to watch their family member die". A memeber of their family did something terrible so now they are paying for it Just Imagine what it is like to have your predator sitting on death row, and not know if he is going to escape and haunt your family. Just think about that.
All together, you obviously know that the death penalty should be kept in our country. Keeping the death penalty will prevent overpopulation in prison, it will reduce the amount of excessive crimes, and it will give the victoms family closure. So just remember, more of your taxes are going towards prisoners, not your own child.

"Doubt"-Scene 9

The lights cross fade and there are students sitting in Sister James’ class
DONALD MULLER: (To Sister James) Sister.
(Sister James stops reading her book and looks up)
SISTER JAMES: Yes Donald.
DONALD MULLER: May I use the restroom?
SISTER JAMES: Yes, make it quick. I still have another lesson to teach.
(Donald rises and pushes his chair under his desk, and exits the room)
(Lights dim)
(Scene opens as Donald exits the restroom. Donald looks up and finds Father Flynn gazing open him. )
FATHER FLNN: (to Donald) come here son.
DONALD MULLER: Yes father?
FATHER FLYNN: Come to my office, may I have a word with you?
DONALD MULLER: Yes father.
(They enter the office; Father Flynn closes and locks the door)
FATHER FLYNN: How are your classes coming a long?
DONALD MULLER: All is well father.
(Father Flynn peers out the window)
FATHER FLYNN: I have bad hearsay to tell you.
(Donald puts his head down and anxiously waits to heed what Father has to pronounce)
(Father Flynn takes a deep breath)
FATHER FLYNN: I’m being transferred to another perish
(Donald looks up instantly)
DONALD MULLER: What does that indicate father?
FATHER FLYNN: I will no longer be here at this perish to guide you.
(Donald stands in disbelief)
DONALD MULLER: But why? (Pause) What happened?
FATHER FLYNN: They are suspecting something.
(Donald sits back down)
DONALD MULLER: I don’t understand.
(Looks down and starts fiddling with his fingers)
Suspecting what?
FATHER FLYNN: (sigh) I don’t know Donald, I really don’t know.
(Takes a pause)
Alright back to class now.
(Donald stands up and gives father a hug.)
DONALD MULLER: (sniffles) Good-bye Father Flynn.
(Donald scurried out in sadness)
(Lights fade)
(Donald walks into class)
SISTER JAMES: What took so long Donald.
(Lights fade)
